Other ice melts can be very damaging to soil, vegetation, and waterways. Traditional ice melts like rock salt can heat up to 175°F due to high concentrations of salt, which can cause severe burns to pets’ paws.

Natural Alternative® Ice Melt is a blend of four powerful deicers and includes an activator that helps initiate the deicing process. It won’t get slippery when wet and doesn’t leave a white residue on floors. It is effective but gentle on hardscapes and properly cured and sealed concrete (at least one year old). How do application rates compare with traditional ice melt products?

Because Natural Alternative® 100% CMA Ice Melt is lighter and more efficient, less product is needed to achieve the same coverage. It has a density of 40 lbs. per cubic foot compared to 70 lbs. for rock salt.

This means that while the volume may appear larger, you're actually using fewer pounds overall — up to 75% fewer pellets on the road or sidewalk surface. Application rates range from 5–15 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. for commercial use, depending on conditions.

For best results, apply Natural Alternative® 100% CMA Ice Melt before or at the beginning of a storm to prevent snow/ice bonding. Allow time for the product to penetrate and loosen the snow/ice before removal. Reapply when new accumulation of snow or ice shows first tendency to bond.
