When it comes to snow storms, being available at any moment is important. Additionally, being able to make sure machines are running at their best is essential. Here are a few tips to ensure your machines have little to no downtime when they are needed the most.

1. Regular Maintenance: One way to keep your machine running best is to complete the regularly scheduled maintenance at the specified intervals. In the case of wheel loaders, servicing at the first few intervals of 250 hours, 500 hours, and 1,000 hours are vital to keep the machine running smoothly.  If a machine is sitting for a long period of time, it is important to do daily walk around checks and run the machine at least 20 to 30 hours per month to keep the components properly lubricated. Some manufacturers may have preset service kits designed around those timings and it is best to have them on hand for your machines to be proactive.

2. Job Site Maintenance:  Having a great service team/company to support your machines while they are on the job is important as well. When you are out plowing snow, the last thing you want is to not be able to complete the job because of a breakdown. Many manufacturers even offer telematics solutions with their machine as standard equipment so they can diagnose what may be wrong even before the service truck heads out. This saves time as they can gather the right parts and tools the first time and ensure that the wheel loader is back up and running in record time.

3. Safety While Servicing: Whether your machine is being serviced in a shop or out on the job, it is very important that the person servicing the machine can be safe. Key features of a machine such as hand rails, non-slip steps, and easy-open access points make sure that the chance of injury is substantially minimized. Some manufacturers have even configured the engine block, cooling packages, grease points, filters, and other regularly serviced areas so they are very easy to open, access, and service without a lot of effort or need to remove other items first to get to those areas.

4. Warranty Support: A machine supported by a comprehensive standard OEM warranty is the best way to protect your investment and reduce your owning/operating costs. This will give you peace of mind for those unforeseen service needs. Some manufacturers even offer longer warranties of 3 years or more, which can be helpful when managing large machine fleets.
