Networking Reception: Pre-Game BBQ Picnic

Join us at the Orioles vs. Red Sox Game

Food and drinks will be available pre-game in the Camden Club (located in the B&O Warehouse, just beyond right field), to connect with your peers and fellow SIMA committee volunteers. Attendees will also receive a ticket to to the ball game, included in the price of registration.

Opening Session: Build Your Dream Team

with Mark Eaton

In this transformative program, Mark will take you on a journey to attain an understanding of yourself, your team, and your customers. In this unique interactive presentation, you’ll find out how to:

  • Unlock the hidden potential of every member of your team
  • Facilitate authentic communication between team members
  • Revolutionize, recharge and restore harmony in every key relationship

You’ll be inspired and able to honor those around you with greater acceptance and understanding of their strengths, talents, needs and potential. This is an experience that transcends learning; it’s one of bonding and revelation.

Recruiting Roundtable

This 1-hour facilitated discussion will focus exclusively on recruiting an all-star snow workforce. Attendees will share their experiences and discuss effective practices for recruiting people who fit your team.

Discussion topics will include:
  • Best sources to find quality workers
  • Technology that can help
  • Recruiting policies and procedures
  • Onboarding and training

Prior to the event, SIMA will ask attendees to submit their recruiting policies and procedures. After the event, SIMA will use that information and results from the roundtable discussions to create the Best Practices for Recruiting Snow Talent. This document will be sent to all attendees.

Snow Management Careers Roundtable

Inspired by the Leaders Panel, this 1 hour plus facilitated discussion will center on helping create leaders within your snow management organization. The goal will be to help define for the first time a set of standardized roles and careers within snow companies.


Discussion topics will include:
  • Pay scales (staff charts/organizational chart) and role definition
  • Training and professional development policies and practices
  • Company culture and its impact on attracting good people
  • Employee reviews and incentives

Prior to the event, SIMA will ask attendees to submit job and role descriptions. After the event, SIMA will use that information and results from the roundtable discussions to create the Best Practices Snow Management Careers Guide. This document will be sent to all attendees.

Closing Session: Unleashing Team Talent

with Leslie Boomer

If you’ve hit a home-run on recruiting, how do you take the next step to retain and grow a high-powered team? Become a workplace of choice by focusing on strengths-based development. Leslie will walk through the critical factors that must be in place from leadership and core staff in order to build on strengths.

Attendees will learn tangible ways to build trust and stability using a series of catalysts, igniting the team to develop better relationships and celebrate greater success together. Each attendee will receive a complimentary Strengths Finder assessment and learn how the results can be used to create a more engaging workplace.

Participation is optional but encouraged! Attendees who take the assessment can also participate in a future webinar with Leslie to learn how to apply Strengths Finder to unleash your internal talent and balance your teams.

NBA All-Star Mark Eaton

Mark shares how he went from a 7’4″ 21-year-old mechanic who couldn’t play basketball to a 12-year All-Star career with the Utah Jazz.

After retiring from the NBA, Mark became an entrepreneur, TV and radio talk show host, and world-class speaker, trainer and coach. Today, he shares the principles and coaching techniques he learned in the NBA to teach industry leaders, teams and individuals how to outsmart, outlast and outperform their competition and achieve record-breaking success.


Gallup Certified Strengths Coach Leslie Boomer

Leslie is passionate about helping businesses understand the connection between leadership and strengths-based management.

In 2013, Leslie was certified as an executive coach by the Case Western Reserve University, Weatherhead School of Management. In 2014, Leslie became a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, one of the first 200 coaches in the US to complete this certification. She has worked with several snow and landscaping contractors and associations to build better, more effective teams. Leslie currently serves as publisher of SIMA’s Snow Business magazine.
