In order to provide all participants with the opportunity to benefit from SIMA events and activities, SIMA is committed to providing a friendly, safe, supportive and harassment and other inappropriate behavior free environment for all event attendees and participants regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form at any time, nor do we tolerate any inappropriate behavior during event events including event-related social events at off-site locations. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any event venue or off-site location hosting a event-related event.
Harassment is defined as persistently bothering, disturbing, or tormenting another person. Harassment may be based on a variety of factors such as gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religion. The basis for the harassment does not matter. SIMA prohibits all forms of harassment including, but not limited to:
Verbal harassment, such as making derogatory statements, epithets, or slurs to or about another person or group or the sustained disruption of sessions or other event events;
Visual harassment, such as displaying offensive posters, cartoons, or drawings;
Physical harassment, such as threatening, assaulting, stalking, following, or physically interfering with another person or making other inappropriate or unwelcome physical contact; and
Sexual harassment, such as the making of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, sexually motivated physical contact, and other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
SIMA also prohibits any other inappropriate behavior that negatively impacts or affects the experience of other event participants while participating in the event or related events.
We expect all participants—attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers—to follow the Code of Conduct during the event and SIMA events. This includes event-related social events at off-site locations, and in related online communities and social media. Participants asked to stop any harassing or other inappropriate behavior are expected to comply with such request immediately. event participants violating this Code of Conduct may be expelled from the event at the discretion of the event staff, without a refund, and/or banned from future SIMA events, at the discretion of SIMA and its Board of Directors. In addition, in the event such participant is representing its employer at the event, SIMA retains the right to report such behavior to the participant’s employer.
All persons participating in the event as exhibitors in the expo hall, sponsor or vendor booths, or similar activities are also subject to the Code of Conduct. Exhibitors are prohibited from using sexualized or otherwise obscene, offensive or otherwise inappropriate images, activities, or other materials during the event. Booth staff (including volunteers) is prohibited from wearing inappropriate clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise creating a sexualized or otherwise obscene, offensive or inappropriate environment at the booth. In the event that event staff requests the removal of offensive materials or individuals from the booths or other exhibition spaces, the exhibitors and related volunteers shall immediate comply with such request without drawing further attention to the situation. If such materials or individuals are not immediately removed in accordance with such request, the offending booth or exhibition display may be removed by event staff, without a refund.
In addition, if a participant engages in harassing or otherwise inappropriate behavior, event staff retains the right to take any action they deem necessary and appropriate to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants.
SIMA encourages participants to please report any behavior that makes them or someone else feel unsafe or unwelcome to event staff as soon as possible. Event staff can be identified by t-shirts/special badges/headsets. Code of Conduct violations reduce the value of our event for everyone.

While SIMA cannot follow up with the reporter of an anonymous report directly, event staff will investigate the incident and will use its best efforts to prevent a recurrence.

When taking a personal report, event staff will do its best to ensure the participant is safe and cannot be overheard. They may involve other event staff to ensure the report is managed properly. Once safe, staff will ask the participant to tell staff about what happened. This can be upsetting, but the staff is committed to handling reports as respectfully as possible, and encourages participants to bring someone to support them during the reporting process if desired. The participant will not be asked to confront the other party and staff will do its best to maintain the participant’s confidentiality.
